Following the battle of Malvern Hill, both sides buried their dead on the field. In the woods near the Confederate lines is where I came across this sign. It is believed that the depressions behind this sign are the former graves of fallen Confederate soldiers. After the Civil War was finished, groups like the Daughters of the Confederacy returned to the battlefields and disinterred their soldier's bodies back to places like Hollywood Cemetery in nearby Richmond for a proper burial. © Mike Lynaugh
